Illinois Driver License Practice Tests

191 free practice questions across 7 tests, each with the correct answer and an explanation. No account needed.

The Illinois written exam asks you to identify road signs by shape, color or symbol, to read signals and pavement markings, and to answer multiple-choice and true-or-false questions on traffic laws, safety and equipment. You get three attempts within a year of paying the fee, and every driver retakes it every eight years unless their record is conviction-free.

These practice tests follow the Illinois Rules of the Road chapter by chapter: the license, exams and young drivers, traffic laws, sharing the road, DUI and license sanctions, signs and signals, safe driving, and equipment and vehicle ownership. The road-sign test shows the actual sign pictures, the way the real exam does.
