Maryland's knowledge test has 25 questions in 20 minutes and covers motor vehicle laws, safe driving practices and traffic signs. Every new driver, at any age, goes through the Rookie Driver graduated system: a learner's permit with driver education and 60 practice hours (14 at 25 or older), then a Provisional License held 18 months conviction-free, then a full license.

These practice tests follow the Maryland Driver's Manual section by section: tests and licensing, basic driving and right-of-way, signs, signals and markings, driving situations and conditions, dangerous behaviors and sharing the road, and crashes, traffic stops, restrictions and penalties.
