Tennessee's knowledge test is multiple choice and by law about a quarter of it covers alcohol and drugs, with the rest split among signs and signals, safe driving principles and rules of the road. Teens get the learner permit at 15, hold it 180 days and log 50 hours before the Intermediate Restricted license at 16; fail the knowledge test and you wait a day, and the road test scores errors with waiting periods from a day to 30 days.
