Wisconsin Driver License Practice Tests

170 free practice questions across 6 tests, each with the correct answer and an explanation. No account needed.

Wisconsin's knowledge test has 50 questions and you need 40 right (80 percent); the separate highway signs test has 15 questions and you need 12. Both come from the Wisconsin Motorists' Handbook. Teens start with an instruction permit at 15 in driver education, log 50 supervised hours (ten in darkness), and hold a probationary license at 16 with passenger and midnight-to-5 a.m. limits for nine months.

These practice tests follow the handbook section by section: tests, permits and the probationary license; the basics of right-of-way, speed, turning, passing and parking; highway signs; signals, pavement markings and special lanes; weather, rural roads and emergencies; and alcohol, distraction and sharing the road. The sign test shows the actual sign pictures, the way the real highway signs test does.

How to use these

Read the study guide chapter first — the guides below are written from the handbook — then take the matching test. The explanation under each question gives the rule behind the answer, which is what the real test rewords.
